The Definition of Marriage Amendment Bill has passed into New Zealand law, 77-44, making same sex marriage and joint adoption by married same sex couples legal. After the bill was announced, the entire hall of parliament burst into song together, singing Pokarekare Ana, a maori love song about a couple separated by distance and culture. It was one of the most moving things I have ever experienced, and I am very proud to be a New Zealander tonight.
Yes! definitely something very gripping and enthralling about it. So many characters I love love love and some not so much (OMG don't think I've ever hated a fictional character as much as I hate Joffrey!!) Have you seen the beginning of the 3rd season already?
Omg don’t get me started on Joffrey…ugh! And Cersei…and Jamie…actually just all the Lannisters except Tyrion! Yeah i saw the first ep of season 3 but wasn’t that impressed, like it was a good episode, just wasn’t really an epic start to the season, can’t wait to watch though! Have you started S3? Fav character?
Gday to all! I’ve officially found and moved into a flat! And after much rigorous cleaning and scrubbing i think it is now safe to go barefoot inside.
Highlights of today:
1. Preparing an epic lasagna then not being able to figure out how to switch on the oven. Turns out manual gas ovens are an actual thing that survived the invention of technology. Yes there are flames in my oven.
2. Getting locked in the courtyard (sans phone or key) for almost 2 hours. After failed attempts at bobby-pin lock picking (honestly is that really even a thing?), i ended up awkwardly peering into the house until the flat mate (who i hadn’t yet MET) came home. ahh first impressions.
3. Just to top things off i was enlightened over a phone call with the fam that after being gone two weeks a lady called ‘Pam’ has moved into my room. UM WHAT? Was also informed that if my sister doesn’t come home from camp next week they’re renting out her room to an Italian family. Will someone please explain what’s going on?!
In other news I’ve got my first day of uni tomorrow, pretty pumped, although after the orientation day last week it looks like it’s going to be a tonne of work! Here’s to a crazy year!
Oh and just because you deserve a picture and this is the only one i have, feast your eyes upon the stunning, the wonderful, the extraordinary FLAT KITCHEN!!!
So i was thinking that starting a wee blog could be a cool way to keep people in the loop with life in Sydneeey (not sure how long this will last). For the sake of all my followers who aren’t the 2 i do know, or the family i may link this to, i just made the leap across the ditch from New Zealand to Sydney, Australia to start my Masters in Occupational Therapy.
Now i know that us Kiwi’s probably get it alot easier than most others trying to shift across here (medicare, domestic uni rates etc) but it’s still a freaking mission to move countries. For starters flat hunting is pretty much a PG version of online dating. You read their profile, they read yours. Someone makes the first move…’ooh yeah i’d love to come and see the place, what a beautiful living room you’ve got there Steve’. Then it’s the waiting game, ‘should i call them?? no no don’t want to be too stalker-ish, i’ll wait till they phone me…WHY AREN’T THEY CALLING….there’s probably somebody else :/ DISCALIMER: Have not tried internet dating.
Seriously though i don’t know where i would be without the lovely family friends i’m staying with while i hunt. Nothing beats a 15 year old’s response when asked what places to avoid. Apparently if you go to Punchbowl you’re going to get a whole other kind of punch.
Loving Sydney though. I haven’t done any touristy stuff and have only been into the CBD for about 15 minutes to get some city maps. Day one involved me making the trip from the airport to the northshore carrying a 22kg backpack, a 25kg suitcase, a 10kg carry on luggage and my trusty handbag. Kinda wish i got a picture. People were nice though; one man nearly tore a ligament lifting my suitcase from the train, up and down 2 flights of stairs and to the footpath, so kind. Great first impressions Sydney! I hit the ground running with a flat inspection yesterday too. It was almost too good be true, the one thing being heaps of competition because it was so amazing…so i’m not expecting anything to come of that one. Shall see what happens in the next few days with a few more i’m looking at.
Today was less successful with an attempted trip to my campus resulting in me getting lost the second i got off the train. Attempts will resume tomorrow. I then i tried to see another flat but must have misjudged the distance because it was going to take an hour to walk there from the train…uhhh sorry Steve.
I wish i had a photo or something to make this post more exciting but i seriously have been so busy that i haven’t taken a single photo yet!! And this is me you’re talking too! So to make it a bit more exciting this is the exact view of the harbour i have when i catch the train to and from the northshore each day. Weather has been amazing like in this photo so just pretend i took it. kaythanks
